5️⃣ Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence (Anna Lembke)

This should be required reading for everyone. It really helped me to understand how the brain maintains homeostasis. Many people in our society are searching for pain free lives, but our brain knows we need equal amounts of pleasure and pain in order to maintain equilibrium. Miss Lembke states that we might need to face pain in our lives in order to find that equilibrium rather than overmedicating ourselves.

4️⃣ Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder (Nassim Nicholas Taleb)

This is one of the most important books I've ever read, it opened my eyes to entire new mindset and gave me a new framework for understanding the world. I know some of you reading this book will find the cocky tone of the author unbearable but just keep plowing through, the ideas shared inside are based on a very powerful logic that's hard to argue against.”

3️⃣ Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less (Greg McKeown)

“This book challenges you to do only what’s essential in your life, and eliminate the rest. The goal is “less but better,” achieved by focusing on the vital few, not the trivial many. It advocates being more meaningful and purposeful, not just more productive. It explains how to live “by design, not by default.” It’s not about asking, “What do I have to give up?” but, “What do I want to go big on?” It applies to all of life, including work and personal life.

“As I have felt my life spiralling out of control, this is the book I picked up. The author gleans from the best and most successful people and their philosophy and supports his stance that, with a proper personal mission statement, SMART goals, and a willingness to simplify and change our perspective, we can prioritize and live, with, play a more meaningful life. His philosophy is one that supports greater joy with family, less clutter and better use of time in all aspects.

2️⃣ Your Anxiety Beast and You: A Compassionate Guide to Living in an Increasingly Anxious World (Eric Goodman)

// Knyga, kuri kviečia atjautai sau. Kaskart, kai labai nerimauju ar nepakenčiu savęs, įsivaizduoju prieš akis mažametį Povilą. Tada pasidaro jautru, bet ramu.

Goodreads įvertinimas: 4.04

“The book presents key concepts about anxiety, how the brain works, and things the reader can do that help. It explores all the ways anxiety can cause problems and encourages adopting a new, compassionate inner tone toward your “anxiety beast”. It incorporates techniques from cognitive-behavior therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, and compassion therapy. Five stars!”

1️⃣ Non Violent Communication: A Language of Life (Marshall B. Rosenberg)

Visiems.

Goodreads įvertinimas: 4.33

The best book I've read about communication, interpersonal relationships, and resolving conflicts. I have a strong feeling that this will be the best I've ever read about the subjects. I'm not sure any book has had as much of an impact on my ability to communicate effectively with other people. <...> I've noticed a marked difference with how coworkers seem to view interactions with me after employing the skills this book teaches, not to mention improved communication with my wife and even better parenting with my children.

🎁 The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are (Alan Watts)

“What a powerful little book. Watts has a gift for explaining Eastern thought and metaphysics to a western audience. Some of the statements in this book will change the way you look at the world in an instant. The day I finished reading this I spent two hours wandering around Seattle staring at trees and buildings and everything else under the sun. Things felt new and interesting for a little while. This book also has lots of interesting (and sometimes very humorous) commentary on western society and the concept of the ego. Truly some food for thought.”

“What if there were One Book, which gave the low-down on all the Big Questions. Who am I? Why am I here? Where did I come from? What is the Universe? How was it created? No, I'm not talking about the Bible. That doesn't really answer those questions in a way that is palatable to the modern, scientific, skeptical thinker. Alan Watts wondered what such a book would be like, and in so doing, he ends up writing it. At least I think he did. The first time I read it, it put an abrupt end to all of my philosophical confusions. I've read it a few times since then, each time with more knowledge and understanding of the subject, and it never ceases to be a mindfuck.”
